On December 23, 2016 The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations announced new minimum wage rate for the year 2017. Daily Minimum Wage in Ghana was increased by 10 percent. The amount which was previously at GHc8:00, was pegged at GH8.80. It was later increased to GHc 10.65 in 2019 and now has been announced by the National Tripartite Committee that effect from January 1, 2020 the minimum wage will further be increased to GHC 11.82.
The increase was announced in Accra by the minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah. Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah also said the new NDMW will be tax-exempt. It was also agreed that the Single Spine Salary Structure will also be increased by 12 per cent across board for the year 2020 relativity of 1.7 per cent.
